Values & Culture

Character is taught in small moments.

A greeting at the gate, a turn taken fairly, an apology offered sincerely. Our values are not posters on a wall — they are habits children practise every day, supported by adults who model them.

Our values

Five words that shape our school.

We chose a small number of values so that children can remember them, talk about them and recognise them in action.

Respect

We listen when others speak, use kind words, look after shared spaces and value differences in language, culture and ability. Respect is shown to classmates, teachers, support staff and visitors alike.

Seen in: greetings, classroom agreements, turn-taking in discussion.

Curiosity

We ask questions, wonder how things work and are not afraid of saying “I don’t know yet”. Curious children read more, notice more and remember more of what they learn.

Seen in: investigations, question walls, library time, projects.

Responsibility

We complete our work, keep our promises, take care of our belongings and own our mistakes. Responsibility grows with age — from tidying toys in Nursery to leading clubs in Grade 8.

Seen in: class monitors, homework diaries, eco duties.

Kindness

We include others, help without being asked and stand up for classmates who need support. Kindness is how a school feels safe for every child, especially new or quieter students.

Seen in: buddy systems, assemblies, community drives.

Excellence

We try our best, improve through practice and feedback, and take pride in careful work. Excellence is about effort and growth, not comparison with others.

Seen in: drafts and redrafts, displays of improved work, recognition assemblies.

Joy

Underneath everything, we want school to be a happy place. Celebrations, play, music and laughter are part of our culture because children who enjoy school want to learn.

Seen in: festivals, sports days, special days, the playground.
Culture in a day

How values show up from 8:30 to 4:30.

  1. Arrival

    A personal welcome

Teachers greet children by name at the entrance. A warm start helps children feel seen and settles them for learning.

  2. Assembly

    A shared purpose

Prayers, the thought for the day, news and recognition of kind or responsible actions — not only academic results.

  3. Lessons

    Classroom agreements

Each class agrees how they will listen, share and help each other. Children revisit these agreements when things go wrong.

  4. Break

    Fair play

Supervised play where adults coach children through sharing, taking turns and solving small disagreements themselves.

  5. Activities

    Everyone participates

Sport, art, music and clubs are open to all, so that children discover strengths and learn to support teammates.

  6. Dismissal

    Calm and safe

Orderly, supervised handover to parents and transport staff. Responsibility and safety to the very last minute.

When things go wrong

Mistakes are part of learning — behaviour included.

Children will sometimes make poor choices. Our approach is calm, consistent and restorative: we help the child understand the impact of their actions, repair any harm and practise a better choice next time.

Parents are informed when a pattern emerges, and we work together on a shared plan. Bullying of any kind is taken seriously and addressed promptly, with support for every child involved.

You can read more about pastoral care on our Student Support page and about expectations in our school policies.

Questions

Values at home and school.

How do you teach values without lecturing?

Through routines, stories, assemblies, discussion, recognition and — most of all — adults modelling the behaviour they expect. Children learn values by practising them.

How can we reinforce these values at home?

Talk about the value of the week, notice and praise kind or responsible choices, and give children small responsibilities at home. Consistency between home and school makes a big difference.

Do you celebrate festivals from different cultures?

Yes. Our community is diverse and we mark national days, language days and festivals in a respectful, inclusive way. See Events & Celebrations.

Feel the culture for yourself.

The quickest way to understand a school’s culture is to walk its corridors during a normal day. We would be delighted to show you around.
