Primary School · Grades 1 to 5

The years when foundations are built.

In primary school, children learn to read fluently, write clearly, reason with numbers and ask good questions — skills that shape everything that follows.

Our primary approach

Fluency, confidence and curiosity.

The primary years move children from learning to read towards reading to learn. We teach phonics systematically in the early grades, build vocabulary through stories and discussion, and give children daily opportunities to read aloud and independently.

In mathematics, we move from concrete objects to pictures to symbols, so that children understand place value, operations and fractions rather than simply memorising procedures. Environmental Studies introduces the natural and social world through observation, questions and simple investigations.

Classes are led by a class teacher who knows each child well, supported by subject teachers for languages, computers, art, music and physical education. Regular, low-stakes checks help teachers spot any child who needs a little more support — before a small gap becomes a big one.

Primary FAQs

Parents often ask us.

How do you teach reading?

Through systematic phonics in Grades 1–2, guided reading in small groups, read-alouds, library time and plenty of discussion to build comprehension and vocabulary.

Are there exams in primary school?

Assessment is mostly continuous — class work, oral checks, projects and short written tasks — with periodic assessments as children grow older. See our assessment page.

What if my child needs extra help?

Teachers identify needs early and provide targeted support in class. We will discuss any concerns with you and agree simple steps together.

Can my child join in Grade 3 or 4 from another school?

Yes, subject to seat availability and an interaction to understand your child’s level. See the admission process.
